our history

On April 18, 1991, several interested citizens attended an organizational meeting at the main branch of the Lincoln County Library, taking the first step in becoming an official affiliate. Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County was approved on March 1, 1992 by Habitat for Humanity International.

Since our founding, Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County has served more than 40 local families with new, rehabbed and recycled homes, as well as home repairs. Internationally, our tithe has provided housing solutions, "smokeless" stoves and water filters to Guatemala. Since 1992, through our tithe, we have served hundreds of families in Guatemala.

Support for Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County comes through recycled mortgage payments from current homeowners, donations from individuals, companies, faith communities, grants and our ReStores.

In 2011, Maureen Krueger became the affiliate's first executive director. Three years later, Terry Laney was hired and successfully transitioned the affiliate from a mindset of scarcity to abundance. With continued growth and new objectives, we welcomed Kris J. Fountain as the next executive director in 2019. To promote recovery and move our affiliate from Covid 19, we brought Kris Vanderpool on board as executive director in 2022. Along with our board and committed volunteers, we continue to provide affordable housing solutions in partnership with the community and families in Lincoln County.
